Epic does not set a hard minimum age. Under 13, or under the local digital-consent age, the account is Cabined until a parent consents: no voice chat, no free-text chat, and no real-money purchases. Parental controls are set by signing into the child's Epic account and are locked with a 6-digit PIN.

Set who can use voice chat

The choices are Everybody, Friends team and connections, Friends only, or Nobody. Under 10 the cap is Friends only. Under 13 the cap is Friends, team, and connections. You can always choose a stricter option, including Nobody.
- Sign in to the child's Epic account and enter the parent PIN.
- Set voice chat. Nobody is available at every age.

- Set text chat to the same level as voice, or stricter.
Leave the mature language filter on

The mature language filter stays on for under-13 accounts. You do not get a switch to turn it off at those ages.
- Confirm the filter is on. For under 13 it cannot be turned off.

Under-13 accounts have a $100 per day cap. The PIN does not cover console purchases, and it does not cover V-Bucks that are already in the account.
- Turn on the PIN for Epic payments.
- Set the console spending limit separately if they play Fortnite there.

You can set a Fortnite content rating limit, and turn Creative and UEFN on or off.
- Set the rating limit to your child's age or stricter.
- Turn Creative and UEFN off if you do not want player-made experiences.
Set a daily time limit or a time window

You can cap total daily time in Fortnite and UEFN, or set windows with limits inside them. Play time and Create time can be separate. They get a notice at 30 minutes left, and they can ask you for more time. Reports cover up to four weeks.
- On the child's Epic account, open Time Limit Controls and choose a daily total or a time window.
- Set Play and Create separately if you want Creative treated differently.
- Turn on the weekly time report if you want the email.
