Grand Theft Auto VI
Grand Theft Auto VI comes out on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and Rockstar's page shows pre-orders are open. The ESRB rates it M for Mature 17+, for Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Mature Humor, Nudity, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content, and Use of Drugs and Alcohol. It also includes In-Game Purchases. We didn't find a GTA-specific parent control on Rockstar's pages. The age-rating and purchase settings that matter are on the console.
We didn't find a parent tool to link inside the game. Set the age filter and purchase approval on your child's console account: the Xbox Family Settings app for Xbox, or your PlayStation family for PS5.
If it's a no for now and your child is under 17, the console settings below mean an M-rated game needs your OK. If it's a yes, the purchase settings below still apply. We couldn't confirm online play or in-game prices from an official page, so this card doesn't describe them.

The ESRB rates Grand Theft Auto VI M for Mature 17+. Its content descriptors are Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Mature Humor, Nudity, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content, and Use of Drugs and Alcohol. It also carries the In-Game Purchases notice. The ESRB uses that plain notice for purchases that don't include random items.
- Read the rating summary on esrb.org together if your teen is asking for it.
- My advice: decide before November 19, so it isn't a store-aisle answer.
Xbox: set an age filter so M-rated games need your OK

On Xbox, the age filter belongs to your child's Microsoft account. Microsoft says any content with a higher rating than the selected restriction needs an organizer's approval.
- In the Xbox Family Settings app, select your child, then Settings, then Content restrictions.
- Under Apply age filters, choose the age limit.
- If your child asks for a game above the filter, you'll get the request as a notification in the Xbox Family Settings app, and you can respond from your phone.

PS5: use a family preset that blocks games above your child's age
On the console · ages 5–17 · checked 30 Sep 2026
PlayStation's presets are Child, Early Teens, and Late Teens or Older. All three start games only when the age rating is the same as or lower than the child's age. Changing any setting switches the level to Customize.
- In the PS Family app, on the web under Family Management, or on the PS5 under Settings, Family and Parental Controls, Family Management.
- Choose the preset for your child's age.
Keep purchase approval on for in-game purchases

The ESRB says the game includes In-Game Purchases. On Xbox, with Ask a parent on, your child has to ask before buying from the Microsoft Store on Xbox. Microsoft says that includes games, apps and in-game purchases they don't have money in their account for, so any money you add to their account can be spent without asking. On PlayStation, purchases your child makes from PlayStation Store are paid from the family manager's wallet, up to the child's monthly spending limit, which starts at zero.
- Xbox, signed in as the organizer: Profile & system, Settings, Account, Family settings, Manage family members, your child, Privacy & online safety, Xbox privacy, View details & customize, Buy & download, then turn on Ask a parent.
- PS5: leave the monthly spending limit at zero unless you've agreed on an amount.
