Roblox parental controls for ages 5–8

Age-based Kids and Select accounts have been global since June 2026. Re-check if a screen does not match this description.

This age is a Roblox Kids account (5–8). Chat is off unless you allow in-game chat. Chat also requires an age check, and it stays off until that check is done.

Link your age-verified parent account to the child account. You do not read their chats from that link.

1. Set a monthly spending limit

   The limit resets each month. Roblox spending limits don't cover gift card redemptions, may not apply on some consoles, and don't cover purchases made through Xbox. Set the console's own spending limit too.

2. Decide whether chat is on

   Kids accounts (5–8) have chat off unless you allow in-game chat. Under 9, game chat needs your consent. Under 13, direct chat needs your consent, and you can turn chat off for under-13s. Chat on Roblox also requires your child to complete an age check (facial age estimation or ID). Until they do, chat stays off even if you allow it, and the age check sets which age group they can chat with.

   Chat is off by default. Under 9, game chat needs your consent.

   1. Open chat controls on the linked parent account.
   2. For a child under 9, leave chat off unless you have decided in-game chat is okay.
   3. For a child under 13, direct messages stay off unless you consent. You can turn chat off entirely.

3. Review friends and Trusted Friends

   You can review connections and Trusted Friends. That visibility continues through age 18.

   1. Open the friends list from the parent account and remove anyone you both do not know.
   2. Look at Trusted Friends separately from the regular friends list.

4. Choose spending alerts

   Alerts at $100, $250, and $500 are on by default. You can instead be alerted about every purchase.

   1. Leave the default alerts, or switch them to every purchase if that is easier to notice.

5. Set a screen time limit

   The linked parent account can set screen time limits. Visibility into screen time continues through age 18.

6. Set which games are allowed

   You can set content maturity, block games, and, on Kids accounts, limit play to experiences you approve.

   1. Set the content maturity level.
   2. In Parental Controls, use Allowed/Blocked experiences (approved experience controls) to limit what they can play.
